Indian Women and Mathematics (IWM) is a collective of Indian mathematicians that has been in existence since the year 2009. The objective of IWM is to encourage more women to pursue higher education in mathematics. It also aims to organize various workshops and conferences that focus on presentation of original research work and also on discussions about career opportunities in mathematics.

More recently, IWM has started organising smaller regional workshops to reach out to a wider section of women students and to early-career women mathematicians. This workshop aims at making women in mathematics from Gujarat and its neighbouring states more aware of the various opportunities in mathematics. In addition to women engaged in mathematics teaching or research, postgraduate mathematics students are also likely to benefit from this workshop.

The workshop will be a one and half day event during December 20 -21, 2016. Some well-known mathematicians from different parts of the country have been invited to deliver lectures at this meeting. There will also be a panel discussion where the participants will share their views and experiences. Young researchers are encouraged to interact with senior mathematicians. In addition, a limited number of participants will be given an opportunity to present their research work through posters.
