Hot Stuff

December 10 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Hot strongly interacting matter once filled the universe, but in the last 14 billion years it has only been briefly produced in relativistic collisions of heavy ions. Some of its properties can be extracted from a quantum field theory using supercomputers; other properties can be inferred from a well-tuned effective field theory. I will explain what effective theories are, how they work, and how they can be used to explain this super-hot stuff.Discipline/Coordinating Entity: Physics
